As a lifelong athlete, once Ryan transitioned from being a decorated NFL player to a full-time father, husband and entrepreneur, things started to change. Ryan battled anxiety and bouts of depression as he faced navigating the next phase of his life, no longer having the familiarity and stability of his 8-year career in the NFL.
BEAM is a national training, movement building, and grant making institution that is dedicated to the healing, wellness, and liberation of Black and marginalized communities.
The mission of Black Therapists Rock is:
Reversing Racial Trauma through Collective Healing
We do this by healing the healers!
Our vision is to foster self compassion, confidence, and inner peace for 100,000 black healers
We founded the Facebook group Clinicians of Color, LLC, (COC) in 2016. Currently, it has over 12,000 members. Its purpose is to help therapists of color start or grow a private practice, but we also provide clinical training to help therapists of color develop skills, acquire knowledge, and become successful in business. The group has become a source of tremendous support and a safe place to process life’s challenges.
The Loveland Foundation was established in 2018 by Rachel Cargle in response to her widely successful birthday wish fundraiser, Therapy for Black Women and Girls. Her enthusiastic social media community raised over $250,000, which made it possible for Black women and girls nationally to receive therapy support. Black women and girls deserve access to healing, and that healing will impact generations.
The Loveland Foundation is the official continuation of this effort to bring opportunity and healing to communities of color, and especially to Black women and girls. Through fellowships, residency programs, listening tours, and more, ultimately we hope to contribute to both the empowerment and the liberation of the communities we serve.
Melanin & Mental Health® was born out of a desire to connect individuals with culturally competent clinicians committed to serving the mental health needs of Black & Latinx/Hispanic communities. We are committed to promoting the growth and healing of our communities through our website, online directory, and monthly events.
We regularly receive inquiries from people across the country asking if we know of clinicians in their area. Because of this we are planning events in cities across the US to help us connect clinicians with those potential clients and give us more insight about the way these cities are changing the mental health game. If you are interested in Melanin and Mental Health® coming to a city near you, send us an email and will work with you to make it happen.
OUR VISION
As a lifelong athlete, once Ryan transitioned from being a decorated NFL player to a full-time father, husband and entrepreneur, things started to change. As the pioneering Black mental health advocacy group in the US, the BLHF provides access to localized and black-culturally competent therapy resources sourced through a network of clinicians, service providers, counselors, and thought leaders. The foundation is named in honor of Boris Lawrence Henson, father of Academy Award and Emmy nominated actress and founder Taraji P. Henson, who suffered mental health challenges without resources or support.
Founded in 2018, within a short time, BLHF has built its reputation on the promise of providing trusted referrals and demonstrating a deep understanding of the population health of communities of color. Through timely and relevant programming and awareness campaigns, it is the hope that mental health will become a known quantity within Black communities, helping the Foundation to achieve a critical mass of Black self-care advocates and allies nationwide. Through a myriad of corporate partnerships, BLHF encourages mental wellness; raises awareness of the stigma and the use of stigmatizing language when referring to mental illness; provides mental health resources and support, offers scholarships to Black students who seek a career in the mental health field; extends mental health services to young people in underserved schools and communities, combats recidivism and supports re-entry for returning citizens.
The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation is charting a new course that encourages Black individuals to own their history, heritage, and collective wounds in empowering, empathic, and transformative ways.
So often, the stigma surrounding mental health issues and therapy prevents Black women from taking the step of seeing a therapist. This space was developed to present mental health topics in a way that feels more accessible and relevant.
Dr. Joy Harden Bradford is a licensed psychologist, speaker and the host of the wildly popular mental health podcast, Therapy for Black Girls. Her work focuses on making mental health topics more relevant and accessible for Black women, and she delights in using pop culture to illustrate psychological concepts. She has been featured in O, The Oprah Magazine, Forbes, Bustle, MTV, Huffington Post, Black Enterprise, Refinery29, Teen Vogue, and Essence.
Therapy In Color was created to ensure all individuals had access to mental health therapy by someone who promoted authenticity and cultural diversity. Therapy In Color is about having a community where Black, Indigenous, and people of color come together, learn from one another, and heal together.
Therapy In Color is more than just a directory of therapists. It is a community of healers dedicated to removing the stigma associated with seeing a therapist.
We are a community committed to helping you live your best life.
